Safety Audits

Businesses require a process of measuring how health and safety policies are implemented and to assess how effectively risks are being controlled, the system should also measure how well a business is doing in developing a positive health and safety culture.

Health and safety performance, needs to be audited against pre-determined plans and strategies.  Auditing  reinforces a businesses commitment to their stated health and safety objectives in general and helps develop a positive health and safety culture.

Two types of safety auditing systems are normally used, these are: -

An active system, monitors: - the design, development, installation and operation of management arrangements in addition to workplace precautions, it should also assess, if adequate resources have been put in place; and

A reactive system, monitors: - accidents, ill health, incidents and other evidence of poor health and safety performance.

It is essential therefore, that businesses carry out safety audits on a regular basis, normally annually or following an accident, receiving an Improvement or Prohibition Order, or following prosecution by the Enforcing Authority's.

S.H.E.A.T. can carry out Safety Audits for any business that requires them, we can also provide training in carrying out Safety Audits.
